Briefing to the FATF President Dr Marcus Pleyer on Environmental Crime, RUSI Roundtable (online), 18 December 2020.

I am over the moon that the FATF kept #environmentalcrime on its agenda this year, but I also made the case that the omission of illegal, unregulated and unreported (IUU) fishing could misleadingly signal that it is not a priority crime.

I strong believe the FATF has an important role to play in enabling the BlueEconomy. There can be no sustainable oceanic development if IUU fishing is backed by the financial sector.

Finally, it was great to be joined by James Toone from the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) too. His write up of the FATF's role in combatting forestry crime is available here: https://lnkd.in/dQKUxr7
