Briefing to the FATF President Xianming Liu on Illegal Wildlife Trade, UK Treasury, 12 September 2020

In September 2019, I was invited by the UK Treasury to brief the Chinese President of the FATF, Mr Xiangmin Liu, on RUSI’s work on the illegal wildlife trade.

Objectives of the meeting included:

·       To take stock of ongoing initiatives on financial flows linked to IWT.

·       To provide information that will help inform the best scope for FATF work, and to identify the areas for collaboration with other stakeholders.

·       To provide information that will help inform the concept note which will be submitted for consideration at FATF October 2019 Plenary.

Attendees included representatives of FATF, UK Treasury, UNODC, the United for Wildlife Taskforce, and ECOFEL.
